Lecture Notes > Comments"Your
tape, which arrived during my absence, I viewed a few days ago and I tell you I enjoyed it
very, very much. Afterwards I read your lecture notes with the instructions for the
miracles you performed and I was more than impressed. Your 'Design Duplication' is a
wonderful piece and I wish I had invented it" - Ted Lesley
"I just wanted to say a few things about your awesome
lecture notes, which I received a couple of months ago, and have been studying
intermittently with great interest. / First off, the design and layout is exceptionally
professional. I wish all those who market their lecture notes would put this degree of
thought and effort into producing the product. Your line drawings are just perfect --
simple and crisp with just enough detail to demonstrate what you need to. / I think all
the effects are just outstanding, but I have to admit that at first I wasn't that
interested in "Thought Flash", but then, for some reason it kept sticking in my
head. I found myself thinking about it at odd moments, and even considering possibilities
as I drifted to sleep at night. It has now become one of my favorites! "Subliminal
Prediction" is absolutely stupendous; I think it would be a great demonstration in
one of my psychology classes. I love it! Anyway, thanks again for the notes, Ian. They are
wonderful! Oh, and thanks for introducing me to he Matsuyama Force -- absolutely killer!" - Seth Cauthorne
"Ian, Thanks very much for the prompt arrival of the above. I have only had the
briefest of glimpses through but I can already see myself doing the spoonbending. I often
think that Magicians/Mentalists forget that the Public like 'simple and funny'. Sometimes
clever methods are too clever (and can go wrong!) / I am on the council of the Sussex
Magic Circle, can you give me a price for a lecture? (This will not be until after our
annual mentalist competition, when I have won using the spoon bending!) We will only book
you if you agree to never sell these notes in Sussex (only Joking but I still want to be
the only one!)" - Andy Hart
"I very much enjoyed, and am putting to good use, your book
Full Facts of Cold Reading, as well as your Alpha Lecture Notes. Great stuff."
- David Xanatos
"I received my package, and just wanted to say a big thank
you for writing and releasing this fantastic material. Your lecture notes are
great, and your ideas have really got me thinking." - Thom Bleasdale
"Thank you very much for the lecture notes. After having seen you present the
spoon bending, I may add it to my mental show. Very
strong." - David Alexander
"Hi Ian I just got the lecture notes. Thanks a lot. There are many things that I
like and I will send you some ideas that I came up with about some of your work." - Lior
Manor
"Not a question, more of an emphatic statement. Ian, it's been a very long time
since I was so pleased with something I have ordered by post. Your lectures, I saw the one
at Cal Tech for the Skeptics and the one at the Magic Castle, were informative and
inspiring, a combination that, at my age, I should have experienced more often. So, I
imagined the quality of the notes and booklet I ordered would be satisfactory. You create
an act that will be difficult for others to follow. The content of the Lecture Notes is
equaled by the mechanics of the project. Extreme value for money.
Your Castle lecture was brilliantly conceived. The fellow next to me had been working
commercially doing readings on the telephone and was extremely negative toward you going
in. The deeper you got into the act the more he fumed. First he was upset about your
"exposes" of cold reading; next he was agitated because he thought you were not
going to "tip" your performed items. When you said you had no notes for sale I
thought he would expire. THEN, you started the explanations - demonstrated some elements
of your cold reading style, and he began to glow. "This is more like it," he
said. When you finished he had converted to, "He's marvelous." If he could have
hidden in your luggage he'd have gone home with you. Thanks for sharing your stuff with
me." - Phil Flad
"Here is an experience I simply must share with you: I performed
the NMDD [ an item in the Lecture Notes ] just yesterday and got the finest hit I could
ever have hoped for and I have you to thank. Stale words cannot describe the
reactions." - Stephen Long
"I received this morning your Mentalism Notes. First, let me
thanks for the usual good service. It's always a pleasure do bussiness with you. As soon
as I opened the envelope, I rushed to your NMDD. That was the reason why I ordered your
notes. I just wanted to tell you that I'm very pleased. I found in your NMDD exactly what
I was looking for. Every time I use it I get a strong reaction.
One last thing, I find Preludes incredible useful because of the specificity of my work
(I like to think of a magician as someone who not only performs miracles, but can also
point miracles to us). I know that you are a very busy man so I will not take any more or
your time. I just wanted to thanks so much for the wonderful insight and
congratulate you for your work." - Enrique Enriquez
"I have begun to read the lecture notes and am very impressed. The sense of
humor in the presentations could really help many that perform mentalism. In some of my
earlier and dreadful performances humor was lacking. Giving the examples you do, may help
some in realizing that mentalism need not be presented with all the fun of a funeral. OK,
some might have a hard time pulling off the finger licking bit, but I suspect that those
trying it will find that they are entertaining their audience
not just fooling them.
Of course, my first stop was NMDD. Your thinking is very good indeed. I now understand
why you made the point that you actually do use the effect. For many magicians doing
something along these lines is probably out of their comfort zone. To those of us that
enjoy this type of mentalism, the type that comes closer to the "real thing",
this effect is sure to be embraced. It will take me some time rehearsing the words I will
use before attempting the effect, but I can certainly see it having a place in my
repertoire. It seems to be one of those concepts that deserve attention, contemplation and
practice. My suspicion is that it keeps getting better and transforming over time." -
Stan Alexander
"I attended the lecture you gave at The Magic Castle last month.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU! It was a delight to listen to you... I especially
enjoyed the interlude/interaction between you and Max Maven... very funny and very good. I
wish you well in all your endeavors..." - Pete McLeod
"Ian, I was introduced to you by Mike Flint very briefly before your lecture at
the Magic Castle this last Sunday. I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful lecture.
Finally, a funny and entertaining mentalist who doesn't take himself too seriously. Thanks
for sharing." - Ray Karch
"The lecture notes arrived safe and sound under separate cover just a couple of
days ago. I've just started digging into the material, and it's brilliant! Thanks
again. Also heard from Val Andrews this week - -purchased his book test per your suggestion
-- definately something I will use." - Steve Go
"I recently received an order from you for your lecture notes and video. I just
want to say how pleased I am with them both. I can only describe them as
inspirational." - Howard Knight
"Just wanted to drop a line to say thanks for so promptly filling my order. I am
enjoying the lecture notes and video tremendously. - Christopher Carter
"Your Lecture Notes - they're the best I have seen: clearly written, well
illustrated, and beautifully produced. Personally I prefer to highlight words with italics
or bold rather than underlining, but that's the only barrel-scrapingly negative thing I
can think of." - Alan Jackson
"I just drop a few words to let you know that I really enjoy your lecture notes
and your book on cold reading (without doubt, the best I have ever read). I hope that
pretty soon I will have the pleasure to discover your next writings." - Carlos
Vaquera
