Magic Is Real: A
Fund-raising Event For The People of Haiti

[ Last updated on: 2nd February ]
Hi everyone. Ian here.
This is going to be a remarkable evening of fun, live
entertainment, music, magic, comedy and general wonderfulness. Anyone
can come, £10 on the door or by
ADVANCE DONATION. ALL the money goes to
the Red Cross to assist disaster relief in Haiti.
Where:
The Borough Bar,
8-18 London Bridge
Street, London, SE1 9SG. 020 7407 6962.
When: Wednesday, February 10th, 2010. 7pm until midnight.
Yes, I know you have families and jobs to worry about.
Despite the
temptation to just say, 'I would... but I have work the next day',
please come to this event and enjoy yourself. Bring your work crowd!
Bring your boss so s/he can't complain the next day! (Sorry, but it's really
hard to find a free venues for the weekend.)
How to
Pay: It's £10 to get in. You can pay cash on the
door but it's much better and
smarter to pay in advance by making a donation
here. For every
£10 donation the Red Cross will actually receive £12.82 thanks to the
Gift Aid scheme - so they get more money at no extra cost to you. This
is A Good Idea.
Your £10 donation is your ticket to
the event. The guys on the door will have a list of all donations. If
you want, you can print out your donation email receipt and bring it
along with you on the night (saves a bit of time for you and the guys on
the door) but this isn't essential.
Finding the Venue: You
can click the above link to the bar's website and 'How to find
us' section. Or check the Google Map.
But it's very easy: come out
of London Bridge station (the 'over ground' bit, not Tube). Turn left and follow the curve of the station until
you come to London Bridge Street. Walk down it to the Borough Bar! Two minutes, even in diving boots.
Why: Because we can.
Because we can show that magic is real, and that we can do something to
help these people who have just lost everything.
The Entertainers: scroll
down the page to see the complete line-up.
How You Can Help
1. By turning up and bringing friends. £10 on the door or pay
by advance online donation
here.
This venue holds 250 people. I want it full. Your donation
is your ticket to the event. We will have the donations list on the
door, or you can print and bring your donation email receipt.
2. By spreading links to:
- this web page
- the online
donation page
- the relevant
Facebook
Event page. (Link only works if you are logged in to your Facebook
account).
3. By DONATING AN AUCTION ITEM. We will be holding a
big charity auction on the night. We can auction goods, services,
experiences... just about anything. If you can't donate something, maybe
your company can. All that matters is that it is something people are
likely to want, and be able to afford. Got something for the auction? Contact
me and I'll take it from there.
Love to you all.

The Performers
Line-up subject to change without notice. Here, in no
particular order, are the performers booked to appear on the night...

Adam Bloom - 'Time Out' magazine 'Best Stand-up'
award winner, star of 'Mock The Week', 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' etc. A
very funny man and a great friend who was one of the first to volunteer
his services for free. You want 'laugh-out-loud' funny? You've got it!
- - -

Kirsty Newton - Singer, songwriter and astonishing
'human jukebox' Kirsty is a rising star of the entertainment world.
Whether singing standards, audiences requests or her own material, she
is a mesmerising performer with genuine star quality. With club
audiences Kirsty often likes to play her favourite game of playing and
singing any song you can think to ask for. Be warned: she has
been known to play this game for hours, and you will run out of songs
long before she does!
- - -

James Brown - The Opportunist. I personally
guarantee that James will astound, amaze and entertain you, and
completely re-define what you think is possible. Nobody, not even
magicians, can explain all the things he can do. A surreal blend of
mind-control, magic and entertainment that you will not
be able to explain. Slightly scary (in the nicest possible way).
- - -

Chris Hare - the Memory Guy. It's not often you get
the chance to see this kind of thing! Chris can remember anything, and
on the evening he will be presenting one or two stunts of miracle memory
power that will take your breath away. It's fun, too. What's more, chat
to him after and he will explain how you too can remember
anything you want, with perfect recall!
- - -

Anil Desai - the Stand-Up Chameleon. Rapid-fire, funny
impressions that fly by so fast you can barely catch them all. Having
Anil on the bill is like having 52 different superstars on stage - and
if you like Robert de Niro, are you in for a treat! I've seen
Anil perform many times and he always goes down a storm!
- - -

Michael Vincent - the Sleight of Hand Artist. I've
been friends with Michael since forever. I knew before I started putting
this event together that he would be first on the phone asking how he
could help. Michael blends art, elegance, superlative skill and a life-long love of astonishment into a
tapestry of magic unlike any other. One of the finest sleight of hand
artists in the world... some would say the finest. Watch, be
amazed, and realise that yes... magic is real.
- - -

Carey Marx - comedian extraordinaire! Surreal,
strange and ingenious comedy that makes you think... what goes on
in this man's mind? Carey has performed just about everywhere, for just
about everyone, and I'm delighted he has freed up his evening to be with
us. No-one quite knows where Carey gets his ideas from, not even him!
Classy comedy, not to be missed.
- - -

Daisy Idwal Jones - This is my friend Daisy. She
isn't actually part of the official 'entertainment' line-up as such, but
she does a very wicked impression of Bob Geldof. As this is a
fund-raising event, it seems appropriate to try and persuade her to do
it for us.
- - -

Dr. Todd Landman. You've probably never met a
Paranormal Entertainer before, so now is your chance! What does he do?
He warps reality, twists your mind inside out and shows you that no
thoughts are secret. But he's really charming about it!
- - -

Matt Hennem - time and motion specialist. Matt is
the new star of juggling, illusion, mime and what can only be described
as kinetic magic taken to the nth degree. Beautiful, beguiling and
mesmerising to watch. Gravity will be suspended for the duration of this
captivating performance.
- - -

Neil Henry. Host of 'The Evening of Odd', regular
star at Madame Jo-Jo's, well-known to London club audiences, magician
and professional manic nutcase Neil Henry will do exceptionally silly,
strange and sometimes outrageous things for your entertainment and
pleasure. It's magic, Jim, but not as we know it.
- - -

Lee Warren. One of the busiest, most in-demand
magicians in the country. Lee does it all: corporate gigs, parties,
special occasions, close-up magic, hosting, cabaret... you name it and
this consummate, polished professional can do a super job. And in two
languages! Lee is a very valued friend whose intelligence and charm will
delight you from first to last.
- - -

Me. Yes, if I get a chance on the night, I'll
probably get up and do the occasional miracle. Just to provide the
'filler' between the other, really good acts.
