Mind Power lecture show > FAQHere are
a few questions that often arise.
- In your lecture you demonstrate some 'psychic' effects.
Are you psychic?
- Do you reveal how you do the things you do?
- But you do expose some secrets, don't you? Such
as cold reading?
- Can you prove you're not psychic?
- Do you believe in psychic ability?
- Can anyone do the same things you do?
- Are you in the Magic Circle?
- Do you believe in God?
- Have you ever encountered a real miracle?
- In you lecture you demonstrate some 'psychic' effects. Are you
psychic?
- No. I have no psychic powers whatsoever. But if I wanted to, I could probably make you
believe I had all sorts of strange psychic powers. Top
- Do you reveal how you do the things that you do?
No. I love magic and mentalism (mind-reading type magic) and I honour the code of
secrecy that I share with my brothers in the dark, deceptive arts. We work hard to create
moments of wonder and astonishment, moments that can transport you to a realm of almost
child-like delight, or make you see the world in a new way. Revealing the methods would
spoil the fun a little. Top
- But you do expose some secrets, don't you? Such as cold reading?
I don't reveal any magic secrets. I do often demonstrate cold reading during my lecture,
but I don't explain it. Cold reading is not a magic trick or a magic secret. Top
- Can you prove you're not psychic?
No. This is not a very smart question, because it is very hard to prove that you are not
something. Can you prove you can't play the tuba? You could demonstrate your incompetence,
but I could insist you're just pretending to be awful. See the problem?I never claim to
be 'psychic', since I tend to aim for better results than they do and I also hope I am
more entertaining. I don't explain how I do the things I do, so you can believe I'm
psychic if you wish. You can also send me large sums of money in return for advice about
your career, love life and future. My minimum fee is £1000. Top
- Do you believe in psychic ability?
It really depends what you mean by 'psychic'. Let's start with the scientific answer.
More than a 100 years of scientific research, all over the world, has failed to unearth
any good evidence of psychic ability. A lot of supposedly 'psychic' abilities turn out to
be very different if you investigate them properly, and with the right information.
On the other hand, I do believe the human mind has truly awesome potential. When you
get your own mind working for you in the right way, the positive results you can achieve
are breathtaking. If this adds up to 'psychic ability' in your book, then I'm with you.
Just don't ask me to give much credence to people who read fortunes, bend spoons or
reproduce drawings in sealed envelopes. I know how it's done! Top
- Can anyone do the same things you do?
Yes. They may even do it better! It's not as if I do anything difficult for a living,
like playing good jazz guitar or understanding corporate tax law. Top
- Are you in the Magic Circle?
Yes. I am a fully-fledged MMC (Member of the Magic Circle). I have also had the honour
of lecturing at the Circle by invitation, and I have also performed (again, by invitation)
in a special mentalism evening staged in the Circle's own theatre. Top
- Do you believe in God?
Depends what you mean by 'God', doesn't it? You ask 100 people and you get 100 different
definitions. I don't buy the 'Big guy, white beard, fluffy cloud' version. I also have no
time for the kind of god whose followers say, 'We alone are right and everyone else is
wrong'. That's not worship, it's bigotry and hatred. In general, my outlook is that you
can worship your gods and I'll worship mine. Mine are knowledge, respect and love. Top
- Have you ever encountered a real miracle?
Yes, I have been lucky enough to encounter some real miracles. I refer to a number of
wonderful and outstanding women whom I know, in their respective ways, have changed my
life forever and for the better. Top
