Deadly Down Under / The Creature

Just to labour the point, although the spider was harmless, I had no way of knowing this. For all I knew at the time, it could have been the deadliest thing on eight legs. Here are two views of the cheery little fella.

I like this next shot, chiefly because it's such a good view of the spider's abdominal markings which....

...look great if we zoom in a little. I don't think it would be hard to suggest to someone that this was the 'Death's Head' spider, or the 'Screaming Face' spider:

Here's my left hand, for size comparison. As I wrote on the main page, this spider may not be 'large' by Australian standards, but by British standards it was massive. Easily the largest real-life spider I'd ever seen. Of course in Photoshop you can take an image like this, mess around with it and make the spider look even bigger. I've done this (fairly quickly) in one of the examples at the bottom of the page.
