Note: Member Of The Magic Circle

The Magic Circle is a private club for magicians in north London. Founded in 1905, it is widely regarded as the most pretigious magic society in the world.

It's not easy to get in! Anyone wishing to join has to go through an interview and then pass a practical 'exam', which means performing their act in front of existing members at the Magic Circle headquarters. Many describe this as a nerve-wracking, terrifying ordeal!

Members can obtain three different levels or 'ranks'. They are:

• MMC: Member of the Magic Circle. The 'basic' membership level.

• AIMC: Associate of the Inner Magic Circle.

• MIMC: Member of the Inner Magic Circle. The highest rank.

Members who achieve MIMC status can also be awarded a 'gold star', which means they are recognised for their performing ability. (As opposed to, say, being granted MIMC for their services to magic or for having written notable books on the history of magic).

I am immensely proud to be a Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star. At any given time, only about 140 people in the world are MIMC.
