Creative Problem-Solving

Overview

This is a fun, participative course in which I teach six powerful principles of creative problem-solving. It features original puzzles and challenges and plenty of engagement and lively participation.   

What Happens

I present six practical and powerful principles of creative problem-solving.

 

In each case, I present the group or class with an original puzzle or challenge to solve. I also relate each principle to famous examples, from business and from history, showing how these creative approaches enabled people to deal with tough problems and achieve amazing results. 

Benefits

The three main business benefits are:

  • Fewer problems, more solutions! The principles that I teach on this couse work. All attendees will know how to calmly and confidently tackle problems and — in almost every case — come up with a practical solution! 

  • Better morale. When people feel they face problems they can't handle, morale suffers. When people feel they have the skills to tackle problems effectively, morale improves.

  • More effective management. One way to manage people is to constantly try to solve their problems for them — in other words, to teach dependency. The alternative is to give them the skills they need to solve their own problems — teaching independence and self-reliance. 

Tone 

This course is a lot of fun! People can tackle the various puzzles and challenges individually, in pairs or in teams. I tend to reward success with gold stars and even small bottles of prosecco! However, while I keep the tone lively and pacy, the creative principes I teach are practical and effective.

 

Notes

With a few exceptions, the various puzzles and challenges involved in this course are original. I devised them specifically for this course. I haven't just copied them from a puzzle book so they will not be puzzles you've seen before. 

Practical Matters

Time:  This course generally runs to about 90 minutes, although I can make it shorter or longer if you wish. 

All attendees will get their own set of printed course notes. I supply you with the master copy, from which you print as many copies as we'll need on the day.
